Chintpurni & Chamunda Devi Temple
These temples are located in the Una District of Himachal Pradesh. Kali ka Tibba in Chail
This is one of the few temples in Himachal Pradesh which is dedicated to the fierce Hindu Goddess Kali. The temple is located on the top of the mountain Blossom which has been reportedly named after the cottage occupied by the Rajmata. The Kali ka Tibba is a very potent temple which is looked at with awe and devotion by all the Hindus living in the area. Jagannathi Devi Temple is at a total altitude of 1800 m and like most temples it is perched on a hillock. This is an ancient temple dating back to 1500 years. According to ancient lore a shepherd boy had caught hold of one of the two girls who were dancing for a long time to the tunes of his flute. The girl revealed herself to be Goddess Bhuweneshawari who then agreed to settle in the area. The speciality of the temple is the multiple artistic carvings of Goddess Durga on the walls. Basheshwar Mahadev Temple is situated in Bajura area which is 14 km away from Kullu town. This 9th century temple stands on the river Beas hosts a huge construct of Yoni Lingam. Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva are presiding idols of this temple. The Shiva Temple of Bajinath is a must see for any tourist who happens to visit the beautiful town of Palampur. This temple was established in 1204 AD by the merchant brothers Ahuka and Manyuka who were great devotees of Lord Shiva. The architectural style of Bajinath Shiva Temple follows the Nagara style of architecture as is followed in all famous Shiva temple of North India.One of the manifestations of Shiva; Svayambhu is enshrined inside the temple. Raghunath Temple
Raghunath Temple was constructed by the feudal king Jagat Singh in the 17th century. This one of the most famous and the oldest temple in Kullu Valley. Jagat Singh had ordered a Brahmin to be tortured and snatched away all his pearls. The Brahmin locked himself in a room with his family and had set it on fire immolating everybody. Hearing this Jagat Singh was filled with repentance and he consulted the priests for a way of repentance. As advised Jagat Singh built a temple dedicated to Raghunath Ji/ Raja Ram and donated his whole kingdom to Ram. The Raghunath Temple has a magnificent chariot with the idol of Ram (sourced from Ayodhya) established inside it.Chamunda Devi Temple in Palampur
Unlike the ferocious Chamaunda deity in Una, Himachal; the temple of Chamunda Devi in Palampur has a gentle benevolent demeanour to it. The shrine of Chamunda in Palampur is religiously significant as its one of the 51 Shakti Peethas. The scenery surrounding the temple is beautiful and consists of sparkling rivers, plunging valleys and lovely hills. Chamunda Devi is situated inside covered veils due to its religious potency. The Kund/Lake inside the complex is supposed to hold sacred water. Many devotees are seen performing meditation here and the sound of chants combined with cymbals makes for a spiritually uplifting experience.
Hanogi Mata Temple
Hanogi Mata Temple is located 36 km away from the main town of Kullu. This is one of the most sacred temples in Himachal and it is perched atop a small peak besides a flowing stream. Rock climbers are often seen trying to climb the rocks on the hillock on which the temple is situated. This is a rare temple as in this is one of the few temples dedicated to Hanogi Mata in India. The Bhagsu Nag temple is located to about 3 km east of Mc Leodganj and is one of the most important religious destinations of this area. The famous Bhagsu falls lies nearby and hundreds of pilgrims visit it nearby to bath in its holy waters. According to Hindu religion, the serpents are holy and this is why Bhagsu Nag temple is considered to be a sacred place. Sidh Baba ka Mandir lies between the twin areas of Pandhawa and Rajgarh and it is the religious landmark of this area. Finally a saint appeared in the dreams of the Maharaja and instructed him to stop construction and build a temple here as this was the burial site of the saint. Mata Hatkoti Temple in Shimla
Ma Hatkoti Temple of Himachal Pradesh is located at Hatkoti, town of District Shimla. Devi Durga is worshiped as Mata Hatkeshwari in this temple. Many locals prefer to have their marriages conducted at this temple. The temple is famous for its beautiful century-old sculptures.

Hadimba Devi Temple in Manali
Another temple of Himachal Pradesh where marriages are often held is the famous temple located in the Dhoongri Forest of Manali, Temple of Devi Hadimba. The temple has unique architecture that is highly influenced by the Pahari Style and is dedicated to Devi Hadimba, the demon princess who got married to Bhima, the 2nd Pandava. The temple of Devi Hadimba has 4 stories and it was built in the year 1553. The tower of this temple is about 24 m high and the roof which is of 3 levels is covered with tiles made of timber.

Tara Devi Temple in Shimla
Tara Devi Temple is dedicated to Devi Tara and is situated near Shimla. Tabo Monastery
Tabo is also alternatively called Ajanta of the Himalayas. The reason behind this pseudonym is very simple; the monastery has some of the most beautiful carvings, stucco work and wall paintings that you would have ever seen. Ancient scriptures, miniature Thangkas, rare books on Buddhism and objects of art give this Monastery a museum like quality. This is a 10th Century Monastery and is now protected by UNESCO as a world heritage site. 9 temples and 24 chortens lie inside the Monastic Complex.

Kungri Gompa

Dhankar Monastery
Dhankar Monastery lies in the Eastern Part of Central Spiti. Dhankar is a huge village and is the former capital of the Spiti Monarch. This was earlier used as a prison fort which used to hold in criminals and social nuisances. Dhyan Buddha Statue was established in order to inspire the prisoners to the right way of life. Kardang Monastery
This is probably the only Monastery in Himachal that has scripts written in Bhoti. Kardang Monastery (elevation 3500 m) is targeted by ethnologists and peace seekers from across the world.

Tayul Gompa
Tayul Monastery is one of the biggest and oldest Monasteries in Himachal and is dedicated to Buddhist spiritual icon Guru Padmasambhava. The Monastery is staggeringly high and has a good collection of gold inscribed religious texts. Kangyur (now almost extinct language scripts are found here. Gemur Monastery
There is an amazing statue of Marichi Vajravarahi in this Monastery which attracts a lot of tourist attraction. This Lahaul Monastery was established in the 11th Century and strangely the colors and sculptures inside it look as good as new. Guru Ghantal Monastery
This Monastery is the oldest one in the Lahaul region and is known for its unique structure. The structure is entirely made up of teak wood with the walls bearing exquisitely beautiful carvings surrounding giant figures of Brajeshwari Devi and Padmasambhava. This Monastery is tended both by Lamas and local Thakurs. Shashur Gompa
Devi Gyatso in the 17th Century built this beautiful Monastery in Lahaul. This is again associated with powerful religious forces and some of them are demonic in nature. Red Hat sect monks run the Shashur Gompa and they are skilled in the frightening Devil Dance that is held here. Thangkas depicting all 84 postulates of Buddhism are displayed here.
