Kinnaur Tourist Places in Himachal Pradesh

Kinnaur, the remote north eastern corner of Himachal Pradesh is full of awe inspiring natural sceneries. The land was hidden from the world for centuries as it was difficult to reach the place; now opened to the daring and adventurous. The variations of terrain, vegetation, climate and wildlife have divided Kinnaur into three regions viz. Lower, Middle and Upper Kinnaur.

Kinnaur’s prime attraction is the river Sutluj encompassed by forested mountains, terraced fields and rows of tightly packed houses clinging to the hill side. Reckong Peo, the new district head quarter of Kinnaur is a bustling modern township on the right bank of the river Sutlej, with shops and adequate transport connections.

About 20 km from Reckong Peo, the Baspa River joins the Sutlej at its left bank. The beauty of Sangla (Bapsa) valley is highly fascinating. The valley is dotted with orchards of apricots, peaches, chilgozas and apples. The verdant land has the descendants of the Kinners – the demi gods of the Hindu pantheon, whose deeds have been immortalized in epics and the poems of ancient Sanskrit poets.
