Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh

Kinnaur is located in the southeastern part of Himachal Pradesh. The district came into being as an independent district w.e.f. 1st May, 1960 with its administrative head quarter located at Reckong Peo. Kinnaur valley was a part of erstwhile Bushahr State which had its headquarters at Rampur. Kinnaur is famous for the Kinnaur Kailash, a sacred place for Hindus, close to Tibet. The district’s great natural scenes include rivers, valleys, high mountains, lakes and green pastures that create mesmerizing scenes for tourists.

Kinnaur has neither an airport nor a railway station. The nearest airport and rail head are situated in Shimla. The district can be better approached by road from Shimla. Reckong Peo, the District Headquarter of Kinnaur is 235 Kms. from Shimla on NH-22.
