Lahaul & Spiti is the largest district (in terms of area) having international boundary with Tibet. It gained the status of an independent district of H.P. in the year 1960. Till then it was merely a tehsil of Kullu Sub-division. The valleys, mountains, glaciers,
rivers, forests, pastures, gompas (monastries) and ancient buildings of
the former ruling dynasty are popular sites to visit. Lahaul and Spiti
are two different mountains tracts combined to form a single revenue district. The administrative head quarter is located at Keylong.
